Where is your hometown? North Vancouver, although I also spent time living in Penticton.

How long have you been busking/performing? I started busking at a fundraising event in Penticton when I was sixteen and completely fell in love with it. Since then, I have busked at the Penticton Farmer’s Market, the Vancouver Farmer’s Market, as well as part of the Robson Live busking program and Music By The River in New West. In total, four years.

What is your favourite thing about performing? I love the instant reaction you get while busking on the streets. If people like what you’re singing you can instantly see it in their facial expressions, which is great to have that feedback as a performer. But more than that, my favourite thing to see is little kids dancing and gazing up at you, it’s magical.

Who are some of your favourite musicians? Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, John Lennon, Joan Jett and Ed Sheeran.

What or who inspires you? Anyone or any place surrounding me, whether that be the ocean, the forest, the city, people currently in my life or just life events.

What is your favourite thing to do in Vancouver? I love being down by the ocean, going on hikes around the North Shore and visiting Granville Island.

You can catch Jelayna?performing?on Robson Street this Summer until the end of August. Also be sure to check out her music here!
