This week we are celebrating 30 years of Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) in Vancouver! In the city of Vancouver alone there are 22 neighbourhoods with a BIA in place and over 60 counting in total covering all of BC!
BIAs are funded through a special property tax levy which is directly invested back into the area through various street enhancement, marketing, safety, and advocacy programs and initiatives. The districts are managed by non-profit groups of property owners and business tenants whose goal is to promote and improve their business district.
The Robson Street Business Association (RSBA) was formed in 1991 – the fourth BIA in Vancouver. RSBA serves approximately 190 businesses and commercial property owners on Robson Street, bounded by Burrard and Jervis, including adjacent side streets. The RSBA works on behalf of its members to actively promote the economic vitality of the commercial district through various marketing, beautification, safety and advocacy initiatives.
